Manchester – a Hive of activity

You can’t miss the symbol of the bee in Manchester, it’s all over the city, whether it be emblazoned on businesses, the Universities, plant pots, graffiti, bollards or even as tattoos!

The Bee, or more specifically the Worker Bee, has been a symbol of Manchester since it was incorporated into the City’s Coat of Arms in 1842.

Manchester’s Coat of Arms contains a globe with a swarm of seven Bees to denote Manchester’s trade links across the world as one of the world’s major trading cities, most notably at the time from the Cotton industry where in the 1800s at the time of the Industrial Revolution the massive production of cotton in the area led to Manchester being known as “Cottonopolis”. Manchester’s mills producing the cotton were coined the “Hives” and the Mancunian industrious workers the “Bees”.

Our Bee

- We started hosting through Airbnb and Booking.com and that is still at our core, the BnB is at the core of our bee too. We offer the option to book direct now to cut out their fees, passing the savings on to you.

- At BnBee we love our city and our guests, that's why we have hearts as our wings.

- The three lines in the bee's body represent the three rivers in Manchester, where much of the city's trade was built around to make it the trading powerhouse that gave base to the flourishing cosmopolitan city it is today. The three rivers are: The Irwell, The Medlock and The Irk.
